Pay yourself first. This is easier said than done. But if you notice that when you get your paycheck that even Uncle Sam knows that you can't spend what you can't see. That is why they take the money out of the check before you get it. If your employer has electronic check deposits of your paycheck, this is one easy way to save. Just save a certain percentage of your check each pay and put it in the saving account. You will not even miss the money taken out of your check while the money is going into your own savings. Another way to save money is to invest in Savings Bonds, these must be held for at least a year but then you can cash them in if you need to. But these are inexpensive ways to save money for the future.
Saving change. There was a news article a few weeks ago about a guy who paid cash for his brand new truck. All from saving change. If you put your change in a jar every day at home, it will add up quickly. I save my change for Christmas, or birthdays. It's quite painless and easy to do. Soon you will feel guilty about spending change. I am shocked how quickly change will add up it won't take long for you to have a nice savings in change. You don't have to roll the change if you don't want to you can go to CoinStar or the bank to cash them in.
Bank at a bank that will move the "change" to your savings account. Banks are now starting to move the money from your checking account to your savings account to help you save. Again this will add up quickly to get your savings account balance rising everyday. Every time you use your debit card, they will automatically move the money from the checking to the savings. If your bank don't do this, you can do it online, checking your balance any change that is in the account, just move it over to the savings account.
Use coupons and savings cards at grocery stores. Put the money that you save into a savings account. You can also bank refund money that you get from completing offers of refunds from these purchases.
Saving your tax refunds, and other money that you get through out the year. If you get a refund every year, bank it, the same goes for money – gifts that you get for your birthday, and other holidays. If you sell on eBay or other places online, and have money put into your PayPal account, move that money to your savings not your checking account. These are some easy ways to bank some extra cash that you won't even miss, it's easy to do. Everyone should have rainy day fund you never know when you will need it. It also gives you peace of mind knowing that you have cash to fall back on if you need it, and won't have to scramble to find a loan, or max out your credit cards.
